About

The business is registered as Affordable Computer Services Ltd, which, as a whole, is difficult to use for a website title, so I started using GEEKME after I secured the number plate and the domain geekme.co.nz. The domain name and my number plate also reflects how technology and IT in particular has changed over the last 20 years.

I started working in IT in 1997, at first for a few small businesses and a few private customers, but this expanded quickly, as it happened in those days, to larger jobs e.g. at a university and later also for some schools. But the core business remained a mix of private customers and small to medium sized businesses.

In 1998 I started training for a Microsoft Certified Professional exam, which was then followed in late 2000 by completing all 6 industrial qualifications to become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). I still use some of those technologies I learned about, in particular, as silly as this may sound, the use of a Command Prompt in Microsoft Windows and Terminal on the APPLE OSX.

In 2007 I became a DELL Certified Technician while working on large Auckland projects that required certification, and completed a one-year online course for APPLE OSX systems. Although the Apple course felt somewhat superficial, it provided valuable documentation and materials that enabled me to successfully work on Apple systems for over 17 years, including iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and iMacs.

Fast forward, in 2025 I now work in a mix of solutions for software and hardware problems, including cybercrime and how to secure a system. This includes also virus and malware removal. But I also work on more benign software packages, like digital imaging and of course Microsoft Office Packages, accounting software. I also support questions about AI - or Artificial Intelligence. AI won't go away, so one might as well try to understand how it can help. AI isn't all bad, but there are of course pitfalls, like there are with any new technology.

SERVICES PROVIDED

Like it says with the logo: Technology Untangled. It seems a bit vague, but what it means is that I can help with a wide variety of technological issues and challenges, from the above-mentioned securing of computer systems to installing Android or APPLE TV systems. And anything in between.

But just in the order of my day-to-day jobs, here are the most frequently requested services over the last few years:

System Troubleshooting

General malfunctions, like loss of internet, a device not starting or some problems that keep a system from running efficiently – or running at all.

Software Solutions & Security

Software solutions to address problems, like running antivirus and malware checks, updating existing software and also introducing new software. A solid and cost-effective antivirus and malware solution, including freeware, can get a system sorted quickly.

Hardware Upgrades & Repair

Hardware solutions for problems, like hard drives malfunctioning or systems overheating and also replacements/upgrades, e.g. RAM and/or hard drive upgrades.

Computer Sales & Advice

New and second-hand computers, in case a partial, often more cost effective, fix isn't working. This includes laptops as well as desktop systems. A computer needs to suit your purpose; a "Super Special" isn't always your friend if it doesn't address your needs and your purse.

Cybercrime Response

Addressing cybercrime issues in New Zealand, such as scam phone calls leading to remote device control. Securing systems and assisting with bank communications is often crucial to restore access to bank cards and online banking.

Technical Reporting

Writing technical reports, a service I've provided for over 20+ years in New Zealand, typically for insurance claims, but also for cybersecurity findings.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE – or simply: AI

Are you curious or concerned? in today's World, AI is everywhere and you may wonder what it is all about and what the difference is between Open AI's ChatGPT, Microsoft's Copilot, Google's Gemini and APPLE's Apple Intelligence?

I can provide information about the different AI models – there are others, not mentioned above – either as a standalone service or tutorial or as part of a separate job where I am happy to explain as to how it's not all bad news and how one of those technologies can even be helpful way beyond of what you thought was possible by simply "googling" things.

Pricing

Since I also advertise in the Yellow Pages, I have kept my prices as transparent as possible. To start with, there is NO CALLOUT fee . This doesn't mean that I work for free as I do charge for my time, but there is no callout fee on top of my hourly rate.

Currently my hourly rate is $99.00 including GST for all Auckland areas from Silverdale to St Heliers, Epsom to Henderson, so this includes the North Shore. For suburbs outside this "gamozzle" of suburbs I work in, there is typically a $109.00 charge, or in extreme cases $119.00 but not more.

I believe these rates are very competitive, considering that I have some qualifications.

For upgrade jobs, like hard drive replacements or software upgrades that may take longer than 90 minutes I also offer fixed rates , provided that the devices can be taken off-site. This also applies to system migrations, e.g. from one computer to a new one. Naturally this needs to make sense for both parties. At the core of it is course that this has to work for the customer. So in cases when fixed rates are being discussed it is always the customer who has the final say on this.
